Have you ever had a feel that you just have to do something. Well for me, sometimes at night I have trouble sleeping since I’m running through photoshoots and other creative ideas in my head. That night I had a strong urge that I wanted to go shooting at sunrise at Miami Beach. This meant that I had to wake up at 5:30am to make sure I got parking and caught the sunrise. I barely got any sleep that night but I’m glad I was on schedule to head down to Miami Beach.

I got parking easily and I could see the first light starting to kiss the sky, times like that you just have to stop and admire the beauty. I rushed to setup at the South Pointe pier; I got my tripod out, flash and camera. I took a couple test shots to make sure that the sun wasn’t too overpowering. Great, but I had no reliable way to ensure that the flash was hitting me. Just so happens that a gentleman and his son were watching me and they approached me to help wrangle the flash. This worked out perfectly and the result shows below.

South Pointe Self Portrait

In the left corner of the frame, the sun was huge and created a beautiful light. This is a rare self portrait for me.
